Materials & Finish
The Shell Chair is constructed from molded plywood with a natural veneer finish, commonly offered in walnut, oak, or ash. The seat and backrest are upholstered in high-quality aniline leather or fabric, filled with molded foam for comfort. The exposed wood grain contrasts with the smooth upholstery, creating a striking modernist aesthetic.
The wide seat and gently reclined angle promote a relaxed seating posture, while the foam-upholstered panels ensure comfort. The three-legged design provides stability on uneven surfaces. Lightweight yet strong, the Shell Chair integrates easily into living rooms, lounges, or reading corners as both a functional chair and a sculptural design object.
Comfort & Functionality
The chair features a distinctive three-legged base, made from laminated and molded plywood for strength and stability. The broad, wing-shaped seat and curved backrest are precision-molded to provide ergonomic support. All joints are reinforced, and the veneer is finished with a protective lacquer for durability. The combination of layered plywood and fine upholstery highlights Wegner’s craftsmanship in balancing structure and form..
