Product Details

Comfort & Functionality

The PK20 provides a gently rocking motion through its cantilevered structure, combining ergonomic reclining with visual lightness. The padded headrest offers neck support, while the supple leather or natural wicker provides comfort and breathability. Its sculptural form makes it suitable for lounges, reading spaces, or modern interiors where both comfort and iconic design are required.

Materials & Finish

The PK20 Lounge Chair features a cantilevered frame in brushed stainless steel with a satin finish. The seat and backrest are upholstered in full-grain aniline leather, hand-stitched for durability, or in woven wicker for a natural variant. The base is complemented by a molded leather or fabric headrest cushion with adjustable straps.

Construction

The chair’s frame is formed from a single continuous piece of stainless steel, precision-bent into a cantilever shape. The seat upholstery is tensioned across the frame, creating both flexibility and resilience. A cylindrical head cushion is mounted with leather straps, allowing height adjustment. All seams are reinforced, and the structural design emphasizes Kjærholm’s focus on steel as a modern material.

Poul Kjærholm

Poul Kjærholm (1929–1980) was a Danish designer celebrated for his refined modernist furniture that combined minimalism with meticulous craftsmanship. Trained as a cabinetmaker and later at the Danish School of Arts and Crafts in Copenhagen, he favored industrial materials such as steel, glass, and leather, elevating them with an elegance usually reserved for wood. His most iconic designs include the PK22 lounge chair (1956) and the PK80 daybed, produced by Fritz Hansen and later by Republic of Fritz Hansen. Kjærholm’s furniture embodies clarity, proportion, and subtle luxury, securing his reputation as one of Scandinavia’s foremost 20th-century designers.
