Materials & Finish

The Brno Chair in flat steel is constructed with a continuous frame of polished stainless steel, hand-finished to a mirror polish for corrosion and scratch resistance. The seat and backrest are upholstered in high-quality aniline leather, filled with resilient polyurethane foam for comfort and durability. The sleek union of reflective steel and smooth leather exemplifies Mies van der Rohe’s Bauhaus modernism and material purity.

The cantilever design introduces a slight spring effect, enhancing seating comfort compared to rigid chairs. The padded leather seat and backrest adapt to the user while maintaining shape over time. Lightweight and freestanding, the Brno Chair can be moved easily and integrates seamlessly into dining, office, or conference settings. Its balance of comfort, minimal form, and technical clarity makes it a lasting Bauhaus classic.

Comfort & Functionality

The frame is cut and precision-formed from flat stainless steel strips, welded and polished to create a seamless cantilever structure. The seat and backrest are fixed onto the frame with concealed fasteners, emphasizing the chair’s clean lines. Reinforced stitching ensures longevity of the leather upholstery, while the flat steel profile provides rigidity with a refined geometric presence.

Mies van der Rohe

Ludwig Mies van der Rohe (1886–1969) was a German-American architect and designer, recognized as one of the leading figures of modernism. Known for his minimalist approach, he coined the famous maxim “less is more.” Mies emphasized clarity, proportion, and the use of modern materials like steel and glass to create open, flexible spaces. His iconic works include the Barcelona Pavilion (1929), the Farnsworth House, and the Seagram Building in New York. He also designed influential furniture, such as the Barcelona Chair. Mies’s vision of universal, timeless design profoundly shaped 20th-century architecture and continues to inspire contemporary practice.
